Best Bars at Northgate College Station (2026 Guide)

By Northgate TV·April 17, 2026·4 min read

Northgate is one of the greatest college bar districts in Texas — and honestly one of the best in the country. Sitting directly across from the Texas A&M north gate, the strip has been pouring drinks and making Aggie memories since 1974. Here is every bar worth knowing in 2026.

New in 2026

Harry's Northgate 🆕

217 University Drive at Boyett Street, College Station TX 77840

The biggest opening Northgate has seen in years. Harry's is 11,000 square feet at the former Shiner Park location on University Drive — a full revival of the Hurricane Harry's legacy with an expanded dance floor, live music stage, DJ nights, and two-stepping brought back to Aggieland. Opened March 2026. Immediately one of the largest and most anticipated venues on the entire strip.

Rush Northgate

Former Foundation Lounge Space, Northgate District

Built on the old Foundies space, Rush brings a Houston-inspired dual concept to College Station. Cocktail bar in the evening that transforms into a full nightclub from 11pm. Rotating DJs every Saturday, neon interiors, and a vision to push Northgate's club scene to the level you'd expect in Houston. One of the most ambitious new concepts on the strip.

Northgate Legends

Dixie Chicken ⭐

307 University Drive, College Station TX 77840 · (979) 846-2322 · Est. 1974

Hours: Sun–Thu 11am–Midnight · Fri–Sat 11am–2am

The oldest bar on Northgate and one of the most iconic college bars in the entire state of Texas. Rattlesnake floorboards, thousands of longneck bottles covering the walls, domino tables, and decades of Aggie memorabilia stacked floor to ceiling. Open since 1974 and more committed to protecting what makes Historic Northgate special than ever.

The famous Ring Dunk happens here — graduating Aggies dip their class ring into a full pitcher of beer and drink it down. It is a rite of passage that has been happening for fifty years. If you only visit one bar on Northgate, make it this one.

The Corner Bar & Rooftop Grill

401 University Drive, College Station TX 77840 · (979) 268-1406 · Est. 2004

Hours: Wed–Fri 5pm–2am · Sat 11am–2am · Closed Sun–Mon

Multi-level venue with three bars across different floors — the rooftop is the prize. Family-owned since 2004, this is Aggieland's homebase for visitors and locals alike. Great drink specials, solid pub grub, and views of the campus and strip from the top deck. One of the best pre-game spots on the whole district.

Rough Draught Whiskey Bar

313 Church Avenue, College Station TX 77840

Hours: Mon–Thu 4pm–2am · Fri–Sun 2pm–2am

Northgate's answer to a proper craft bar. Rough Draught stocks 275+ whiskeys, 30+ Texas craft beers on draft, and a rotating cigar selection. Pet-friendly. The vibe is upscale without being pretentious — this is where you go when you want a real drink rather than a cheap shot. Pub grub with a Texas twist rounds it out perfectly.

The Backyard on Northgate

303 University Drive East, College Station TX 77840 · (979) 846-8806

Hours: Mon–Sat 10am–2am · Sunday Closed

The biggest outdoor space on the entire Northgate strip. A sprawling beer garden with a fire pit, cornhole, darts, Connect Four, Jenga, foosball, and the largest screen in the district. DJ on most nights. Open-air vibe that works for everything from a casual Tuesday to a packed game day pre-game. The best spot on Northgate for large groups.

Commander's Cove

215 University Drive, College Station TX 77840

A beach-themed escape in the middle of Northgate. Family-owned and operated with both indoor and outdoor bar options. Known for friendly bartenders, refreshing drinks, and a relaxed vibe that stands out among the higher-energy venues around it. A solid mid-night landing spot when you need a change of pace.

12 Rooftop Bar & Lounge

Northgate District, College Station TX

Dual concept — rooftop bar on top with a proper dance club downstairs. One of the more ambitious club setups on Northgate with a younger demographic and a lively dance scene. Cover charge applies most weekends. 18+ friendly early, 21+ after a certain hour. Worth experiencing for the rooftop view alone.

Game Day Tips

Get there 3–4 hours before kickoff minimum. Bars open as early as 6–8am for morning games. By two hours before kickoff, most venues are at or near capacity. Have a meeting spot pre-arranged — cell service gets extremely spotty when 100,000 people descend on College Station.

Rideshare is the move. Parking is nearly impossible on game days. Drop off, walk, enjoy.

Drink responsibly. Gig 'Em.
